AI is Judging You. All The Time.

Old search engines were step-dad energy: “You got mentioned? Right on sport! Now grab me a beer.” Didn’t care if you were mentioned in a leadership guide or a Reddit fan fiction rant. Ten mentions = ten mentions.

Then BERT dropped. [1]

Now AI is helicopter Mom energy: reads every word, remembers the context. It knows the difference between “Apple’s Genius Bar recommended a new phone.” and “Apple’s Genius Bar recommended a new phone, but I only forgot my password!” Same brand. Different signals.

Your competitor gets quoted as an industry leader. You get quoted in complaint threads. AI sees both. Guess which one it recommends?

If your sentiment is off, you’re not getting in.

The “Trust Me Bro” era of citation tracking is dead. [2] Quality of mention crushes quantity. One authoritative, positive citation beats a hundred “meh” ones. But most brands are still counting mentions like it’s 2017, while AI builds a fortress around the brands it actually trusts. [3]

You can’t just track if AI cites you. You need to know how it talks about you. Praising your product? Or warning people to run?
